Teachable Moments: Patience

Here's a tip, if you don't want to wait, don't pray for patience. The other night I was sitting in my room and watching a Joyce Meyer sermon to the dim twinkle of my Christmas lights. As I watched her teach about love and kindness she mentioned the fruit of the spirit and how real love has these characteristics. She talked about how we are called to love each other as Christ loves us. With the characteristics of love mentioned in Corinthians. Then she went on to talk about how love requires our patience. Sometimes when we are loving others we have to be patient. We have to let them do what they need to do, and in the meantime wait for them.  It was at this time that I sighed, knowing that as I asked God for patience right then, that he would require me to wait for something. And of coarse, like clockwork, he did. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. Then, finally, I received what I had been waiting for. It was worth it. Not only was I relived t...

The Importance of Knowing God's Love Before Ministry and Mission

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of the lovely ladies on our sidebar, Lorraine from Pilgrims Progress. We are so excited to have her on the blog today, and we hope you are encouraged by her words. She is sharing her heart on this months theme: God's Love. Be sure so check out her blog at links below! Hi there! I’m Lorraine. I’m a single gal, juggling a full-time job and full-time ministry. God moved me from Britain to British Columbia (Canada), to help plant a church. I like to blog at This Pilgrim’s Progress just to journal what God is doing in me, through me, and around me. I’m so stoked and so grateful to be here today! A couple of weeks as I sat in for the SOMA One training intensive, Jeff Vanderstelt pointed out one simple truth that caused me to reconsider my life's motivation for ministry and mission. and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased ...

Pursuing God's Love

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our monthly contributors Kristy. She is sharing her heart on this months theme: God's love. Be sure to find out more about her on our about page .  As a child of God and the daughter of a loving Earthly family, I have been the recipient of love, deeper love than I could possibly comprehend. I have been doted on by grandparents and loved on by those around me, but like most people I’ve had to learn how to love myself. When I think of a biblical example of God’s love, Hosea immediately jumps to mind. Hosea tells the story of a faithful, God-fearing man and his wife, a sinner who will not be redeemed. To make a point, God commanded Hosea to take a prostitute as a wife. Hosea obediently did as God commanded and took Gomer as his wife. Things were great for a while, and Hosea and Gomer had several children. At some point, Gomer ran back to the life she once knew, forsaking Hosea and the life he had provided for her and their children. ...

Devotional Monday: Love

"I have loved you with an everlasting love"-- Jeremiah 31:3 The verse above tugged at my heart strings last week when I got it in my email. I was reminded of just much God loves each every one of us, which goes perfectly along with this months theme: God's Love.  Once i read Jeremiah 31:3 i couldn't get it out of my head the rest of the day and then into this past week in those hot mess singleness moments, I was reminded that God loves me more than I can even imagine. His love is unchanging, it's not conditional or dependent on something or someone. He gives us his love weather we take it or not, he still loves us despite what we do. The world says that love is found in a person or "Mr. Right". But Ladies, that's just a small part of love. There is greater love found in God. By seeking him and pursing him, that is where we find his love. Daily he is pursuing us, waiting for us to sit down with him and soak up the love that is found in his wor...

Our Call to Forgiveness – My Lesson in Love

Founders Note: Hello Ladies! Today on the blog we have our new friend, and monthly contributor Vanessa Page! We're so excited to have her and we hope that you will find her words and life experiences as helpful to your hearts as they have been to are own.  To find out more about Vanessa you can visit her blog  A Journey To God .  One thing I’ve learned after being married for 17 years is that God has written on my heart that love and mercy must abound deeply in a marriage. When I got married, I had it in my head that I should right every wrong and ensure that justice was served each time my husband hurt me…whether he meant to or not. Over the years I’ve been the Queen of “remember when you…” This has been a shameful way to live with someone. Recently my husband and I had a quarrel. We were both wrong, but I felt very hurt.  While in my pain, I heard God say to me, “Sing to me!” I thought, “How can I possibly sing, I am hurting.” So I turned on m...

An Unquenchable Love

Happy Valentines Day Friends!!!  I hope today that you take the time to show love to those around you and to rest in God's love for you.  Today I want to share with you all what is on my heart, and that is the unquenchable love that God has for you.  Let's start with a couple of verses... "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."  Romans 8:28 "Know this: my God will also fill every need you have according to His glorious riches in Jesus the Anointed, our Liberating King."  Philippians 4:19 There are SO many verses in the Bible that tell of God's love for us. If you have trouble finding them, I encourage you to check out Psalms. I've been reading in the Psalms lately and I came to a realization of how much God tells us that he loves us in that book. Even more, it warms my heart to read the honest words of worshippers who came before me, who ha...

I'm Samantha and I blog over at Elah Tree - a lifestyle blog and shop dedicated to infusing creativity into everyday life. I am so honored to be hear today. Britney shared with me that this month The Quiet Place would be focusing on love. I was reminded of how I often struggle with knowing how much God dearly loves me.  No matter what, my worth and value are defined in Christ. Because this is something that I struggle with, in the fall I created an encouragement board full of verses reaffirming God's love for me.   Here are all the verses I chose: Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his ;   we are his people, the she...
