Teachable Moments: Guarding Our Hearts

The current sermon series at my church is called " Love Song ". It's a series were we are learning about singleness, dating, and marriage. Today was the first sermon I was able to hear from this series and it was very fitting. I love that what I am learning at church right now also ties in with our theme this month, "Guarding Your Heart". This morning's sermon had a lot of good things to say. What I will be taking with me today is this passage from Psalm 37... 1  Do not fret because of those who are evil      or be envious  of those who do wrong; 2  for like the grass they will soon wither,      like green plants they will soon die away. 3  Trust in the  Lord  and do good;      dwell in the land  and enjoy safe pasture. 4  Take delight  in the  Lord ,      and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5  Commit your way to the  Lord ;      trust in him  and he will do this: 6  He will make your righteous reward  shine like th

What it means to "Guard Your Heart"

The concept of guarding our hearts comes from Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life". This excerpt from Matthew Henry's Commentary explains the meaning of this verse really well...  " II. We must keep a watchful eye and a strict hand upon all the motions of our inward man,  Prov. 4:23 . Here is, 1. A great duty required by the laws of wisdom, and in order to our getting and preserving wisdom:  Keep thy heart with all diligence . God, who gave us these souls, gave us a strict charge with them: Man, woman,  keep thy heart; take heed to thy spirit ,  Deut. 4:9 . We must maintain a holy jealousy of ourselves, and set a strict guard, accordingly, upon all the avenues of the soul; keep our hearts from doing hurt and getting hurt, from being defiled by sin and disturbed

A Special Request

Today on the blog I wanted to take some time to share with you what my good friend Katy is up to. In the past couple of years God has called Katy on missions to Ireland, India, and now to Puerto Rico. (You may remember Katy from her guest post ) Currently, Katy is working as a social worker in Puerto Rico as well as living on a YWAM (youth with a mission) base. It looks like she will pioneer a ministry there called Kings kids as well as participate in events on base, which are passionate about evangelism. She just moved there about a week ago and needs to buy a car so that she can get to work. She has been renting a car in the meantime, but will run out of money for that very soon. Please consider making a donation to her Go Fund Me account to help her buy a car and pay for other expenses while in Puerto Rico. Any amount you can help with would be a huge blessing to her and greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute funds, please consider sharing her Go Fund Me on social m

A Poem

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have an original poem written by our monthly contributor Sandra Gilmore. To find out more about Sandra stop by the about page.  Guard Your Heart  Guard your heart above all else. (Proverbs 4:23)  Employ His faithful ones:  His Love and Trust and Joy and Peace  From dawn ‘til setting sun.  Through the day, they’ll do their part  Steadfastly manning their posts;  Protecting your thoughts and the words you say,  Faithfully serving their hosts.  With Love at its post, (I John 4:18)  No fear can stay.  For perfect love casts it out.  With Trust at its post, (Proverbs 3:5)  No worry can stay;  No turmoil, no stress, no doubt.  With Joy at its post, (Psalm 16:11)  No sorrow can stay.  His Presence fills joy to the brim.  With Peace at its post, (Isaiah 26:3)  Only peace can stay,  For those whose minds are stayed on Him.
