Devotional Monday: Seek the Things Above

I was reading a devotional yesterday and it was talking about  these verses below in Colossians three, which talks about setting your mind on the things above and not earthly things. I love how Paul says in verse three--"For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." By setting our minds on the things above, we are dieing to the things of this world  and as Paul puts it, our lives are  now hidden with Christ in God. Dieing to our self, is a lot like taking off old clothes--setting them aside or exchanging them for new ones. Taking them off and putting on the clothes of Christ just as Paul says in verse twelve. We are putting on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience and through that we are putting on his character. Paul continues on to say that love is the most important piece of clothing, it ties the shoes so they don't come untied. He ends with verse seventeen saying, whatever we do in word or deed do it all in the name of Christ. So you

Read For A Happy Heart

I love reading Romans, especially Chapter Eight. It is always so encouraging to me. Soak it up. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29  For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30  And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. More Than Conquerors 31  What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33  Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34  Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God

Devotional Monday: Grace Costs

So starting today and I am going to be doing a Monday devotional here on "The Quiet Place". My prayer is that this would be a time where you the reader can sit and rest your weary soul. Just as the theme verse of our blog talks about.  Today I want to talk to you about Grace, simply because it's been on my heart and mind today. Grace is something that God gives us daily. It is also something that we should give to others, but sometimes this is hard especially when someone hurts us. When we give them grace, it feels as though we are the ones losing cause it always comes at a price. You know what I mean? We have to be the bigger person and forgive them for the pain that they have caused us even though it may not be easy. We are forced to accept it and the offender goes free. To give grace costs us of our right to be resentful, it robs us of our right to be bitter. It requires us to forgive the inexcusable. I remember a time last year feeling so hurt by someone that it too

Rest for your Soul

As i mentioned in one of  the first posts, I want this blog to be a place where you can find rest for your soul, just as Matthew 11:28-30 says. So today I wanted to talk about finding rest for your soul. This week the verse below has been popping up a lot, especially the part that says-- " Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls ."--Matthew 11:29. Rest for your soul. That is what we find when we spend time with God. We find the comfort and rest that we so desperately need. When we take the time to rest our souls in him, that is where we feel most at home.  When I dig into the word before bed each night, that is where I find my rest. In the words that God uses to encourage me and shape me into the godly women that he wants me to be.    I read a devotional recently that said this-- "I find rest under Your care because when I am with You I am at home. Your care is my homestead. Under Your watch I

Posessing Nothing

I have been reading, "The Pursuit of God" by A.W. Tozer and the second chapter is talking about  possessing nothing. It mentioned Matthew 5 :3 which says, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - Matt. 5:3. This verse reminds us that when we have nothing that is where we find God. I noticed this when i went to Mexico on a mission trip my sophomore year of college, that even though the people that we were staying with that week had very little, they had incredible faith in God to provide for them daily, despite their circumstances. That definitely struck me in a good way, and reminded me that he is all I need. The chapter continues on to talk about how Abraham gave up his son Issac because God asked him to, he put his trust in God that he would be faithful even though it felt like he was giving up everything. There's something to be said about that kind of faith, the faith that no matter what happens you still trust God. My prayer is that kind

Lifegiver

Tonight I read this devotional about how God's saving power gives new life. The article is from a "Women of the Bible" devotional series on  www.biblegateway.com It is so Good! Soak it up here.   This is what the Lord Almighty says: “In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’” - Zech 8:23

Finding Rest in the word

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new" --2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)  As we begin a new year I am reminded of God's promise to "make all things new". Just as the verse above says, a time to let go of the past, a fresh start, a time to rest in him. My challenge for you in this new year is to join me in finding rest in him. Join me in taking time out of your busy life/days and go, grab your bible and find that rest in his word.  Find rest in this verse--- "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."--Psalm 90:12
