The Son of God

This is our greatest encouragement, that Christ was crucified by our transgressions, for our grace, and then rose from the dead.  Luke 24 37  They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.   38  He said to them,  “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?   39  Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see;  a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” - Luke 24:37-39 Want to know more? Check out these links! Grace Lonely, Tired, Poor, Needy... Not According To Plan

Today I had my schedule planned out, I knew what I needed to do and what had to get done. This morning I went about by business and the day started out well. I made it to my interview on time, dressed for success, and prepared. It went really well and I left excited about my interning possibilities. Then I came home and got to the next order of business, find the bank, cash check, drop off envelope, get book from library, get food, go home, eat, do homework, pack. Well, needless to say, things didn't quite go as I planned. I got to the bank, had to pay a fee, they wouldn't let me do a money order because I didn't have an account with them so I left. Then I finally got myself some food and went off to the library only to get there and find out that it was closed. Oh yeah, its Easter Break. Things that don't cross a commuters mind, campus closes down on Easter Break. Shoot! Thus, the book I needed for my homework due tomorrow will remain inside the dark locked doors all w

Devotional Monday: Words Have Power

This week is holy week, the week of Jesus's death on the cross. This week i am reading a devotional of the events leading up to his death and today the devotional was talking about how in Luke, Jesus is going to Jerusalem to the temple knowing full well what he was about to face in the coming days, but yet he still went. Luke's gospel describes this week, right now as Jesus is riding into Jerusalem. I love verse 45  and 46 where Luke tells us---"When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. It it written, he said to them, "My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers." Then verse 47 and 48 says, "Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words." In these verses Luke reminds us of the impact that Jesus had on p

Own Your Promises

Tonight I want to share this old blog post with you--- Who Am I?  The post is a list of all the things that God says we are. So put away the lies and own the truth of who you really are. I'm well aware as a female, that some days a good self-image is difficult to come by. So take these truths my dear sisters (and brothers) and hold them firmly to your heart. Put them up on your bathroom mirror, on the full length mirror in your room, and the one near the front door - you know that one you always look in real quick before leaving the house. And instead of worrying about the way you look, think about who you are, and be encouraged. Because you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Nothing you say or do will ever change that or the fact that God loves you for who you are right now. "I am confident that the Creator, who has begun such a great work among you, will  not stop in mid-design but will  keep perfecting you until the day Jesus the Anointed,  our Liberating King, returns

Devotional Monday: Sacrifice

When I read the verse below in a devotional I was reminded of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross for each and every  one of us. As John tells us, "God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." Think about that for a moment. God sent his only son into the world to love us, to go after our heart, and to embody his character and not the character that the world says we should have. During Lent God has been teaching me a lot about my worth in him. He's been showing me that my worth doesn't come from the "things" of this world but it comes from the love and grace that he provides for me each and every moment of every day. To him sisters we are so worth it. In Matthew 10:30-32 it says--"And even the hairs on your head are numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my father in Heaven". Think about that for

Brokenness

Have you ever been so upset, or disappointed, or heartbroken to the point where you just wanna cry. And then you do, and all the while you are asking God why this happened to you. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. That's right, he is near when our heart feels like it's been ripped out  of our chest, or when we simply can't finds the strength to go on he is right there to put his loving arms around us and let us know that he's got it all under control and with him we are safe. He is our safety net in times of trouble. In the midst of our brokenness he picks up the pieces of our heart and makes them new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that we are made new in Christ, and the old has gone away. In our brokenness we are made new. Sisters, rest in the truth that Psalm 34:18 provides, let it rest in your heart.  Then Zephaniah 3:17, tells us that God is with us every step of the way and that he takes great d

Refresh Your Heart

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." Colossians 3:15 (NIV) Take the advice from the devotional I read this morning and let peace rule in your heart.  Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." Devotional Monday:Never Forsake You

As I read the verses below this week I have been reminded that he will never leave me. The last part of the verse really tugged at my heart when I read it because it was a great encouragement to know that he will never leave me no matter where I go. That my dear sisters is so encouraging, rest in that for a moment.  "For  the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you, or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them". We must remember that he will never leave us or destroy us because his love is unchanging, it's not manipulative or deceitful, it's all consuming and unfailing love that he has for each and every one of us. As Isaiah 54:10 says, "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed." No matter what, his love will not be removed. No matter what we are  going through, God will be right there to pick us up out of the d

God Wants You to Rest

Check out this video sermon on our mission verse!  Come to me,  all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.   Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,  for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. - Matthew 11:28-30

Devotional Monday: Abide in Him

John 15:4-5 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." When I read a testimony on She reads truth, I instantly thought of the verse above because it was talking about abiding in him and as the video Hillary posted mentioned embracing your season of life. This week God has been teaching me just that, to embrace my season of life. To embrace the season that God  has put me in and to trust in his plans because they are far greater than my own. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us of just that, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared advance for us to do", Rest in this truth for a moment. It's so easy to compare our lives to others and wish that we had their life. But the truth is
