The Importance of Knowing God's Love Before Ministry and Mission

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of the lovely ladies on our sidebar, Lorraine from Pilgrims Progress. We are so excited to have her on the blog today, and we hope you are encouraged by her words. She is sharing her heart on this months theme: God's Love. Be sure so check out her blog at links below! Hi there! I’m Lorraine. I’m a single gal, juggling a full-time job and full-time ministry. God moved me from Britain to British Columbia (Canada), to help plant a church. I like to blog at This Pilgrim’s Progress just to journal what God is doing in me, through me, and around me. I’m so stoked and so grateful to be here today! A couple of weeks as I sat in for the SOMA One training intensive, Jeff Vanderstelt pointed out one simple truth that caused me to reconsider my life's motivation for ministry and mission. and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased

Pursuing God's Love

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our monthly contributors Kristy. She is sharing her heart on this months theme: God's love. Be sure to find out more about her on our about page .  As a child of God and the daughter of a loving Earthly family, I have been the recipient of love, deeper love than I could possibly comprehend. I have been doted on by grandparents and loved on by those around me, but like most people I’ve had to learn how to love myself. When I think of a biblical example of God’s love, Hosea immediately jumps to mind. Hosea tells the story of a faithful, God-fearing man and his wife, a sinner who will not be redeemed. To make a point, God commanded Hosea to take a prostitute as a wife. Hosea obediently did as God commanded and took Gomer as his wife. Things were great for a while, and Hosea and Gomer had several children. At some point, Gomer ran back to the life she once knew, forsaking Hosea and the life he had provided for her and their children.

Devotional Monday: Love

"I have loved you with an everlasting love"-- Jeremiah 31:3 The verse above tugged at my heart strings last week when I got it in my email. I was reminded of just much God loves each every one of us, which goes perfectly along with this months theme: God's Love.  Once i read Jeremiah 31:3 i couldn't get it out of my head the rest of the day and then into this past week in those hot mess singleness moments, I was reminded that God loves me more than I can even imagine. His love is unchanging, it's not conditional or dependent on something or someone. He gives us his love weather we take it or not, he still loves us despite what we do. The world says that love is found in a person or "Mr. Right". But Ladies, that's just a small part of love. There is greater love found in God. By seeking him and pursing him, that is where we find his love. Daily he is pursuing us, waiting for us to sit down with him and soak up the love that is found in his wor

Our Call to Forgiveness – My Lesson in Love

Founders Note: Hello Ladies! Today on the blog we have our new friend, and monthly contributor Vanessa Page! We're so excited to have her and we hope that you will find her words and life experiences as helpful to your hearts as they have been to are own.  To find out more about Vanessa you can visit her blog  A Journey To God .  One thing I’ve learned after being married for 17 years is that God has written on my heart that love and mercy must abound deeply in a marriage. When I got married, I had it in my head that I should right every wrong and ensure that justice was served each time my husband hurt me…whether he meant to or not. Over the years I’ve been the Queen of “remember when you…” This has been a shameful way to live with someone. Recently my husband and I had a quarrel. We were both wrong, but I felt very hurt.  While in my pain, I heard God say to me, “Sing to me!” I thought, “How can I possibly sing, I am hurting.” So I turned on my radio and pla

An Unquenchable Love

Happy Valentines Day Friends!!!  I hope today that you take the time to show love to those around you and to rest in God's love for you.  Today I want to share with you all what is on my heart, and that is the unquenchable love that God has for you.  Let's start with a couple of verses... "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."  Romans 8:28 "Know this: my God will also fill every need you have according to His glorious riches in Jesus the Anointed, our Liberating King."  Philippians 4:19 There are SO many verses in the Bible that tell of God's love for us. If you have trouble finding them, I encourage you to check out Psalms. I've been reading in the Psalms lately and I came to a realization of how much God tells us that he loves us in that book. Even more, it warms my heart to read the honest words of worshippers who came before me, who ha

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our sponsors and blogging friends Samantha. We are so excited that she is sharing with you today on this months theme God's love, i hope you love her post as much as we did!  Also Be sure to check out her blog at the links below!   Hi everyone! I'm Samantha and I blog over at Elah Tree - a lifestyle blog and shop dedicated to infusing creativity into everyday life. I am so honored to be hear today. Britney shared with me that this month The Quiet Place would be focusing on love. I was reminded of how I often struggle with knowing how much God dearly loves me.  No matter what, my worth and value are defined in Christ. Because this is something that I struggle with, in the fall I created an encouragement board full of verses reaffirming God's love for me.   Here are all the verses I chose: Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his ;   we are his people, the sheep of his pa

Through her blog and exchanging emails, we have really bonded. I guess you could say she is one of my "blogging friends." With that said, Kiki we so have to meet someday girl!    As we decided on a theme for this month, we knew we wanted to focus on Love, but more importantly God's love. So this month we want you to link up a Valentine  weather that valentine be to other people or to God, that's up to you. You Are Loved

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have Shirley from Light and Love. We connected with Shirley when she sent us her guest post via email. She is sharing her heart this months theme: God's love. So be sure to check out her blog at the links below!    You are loved. Do you know that? Do you believe it? I mean *really* believe it with your whole heart? I want you to! GOD wants you to! All throughout the bible we are told how much God loves us. He sent His only son to die on the cross for our sins. We know that verse well - John 3:16 For God so love the world that He sent His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. While that is THE verse to remember and cling to, there are others that speak of His love for us. Those are real, too!

God's Love

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our monthly contributors Kiki, she is sharing her heart on this months theme God's love. Find out more about her on our about page here .   Sometimes I think that the definition of love is romance. You know, holding hands at sunset, and kisses at the doorstep and love notes written on crumpled pieces of paper. And then I start to think that I don't know love. Or I've never experienced it. Or perhaps that I never will.   But every time my mind goes down that road, God uses a song, a Bible reading, or a blogger to remind me that love really isn't that. And that I do know what love is and feels like.  Sure, there are different way of showing love, but true love is about, well , love. About kindness, forgiveness, loyalty, and hope. It's about Him and realizing that He is the best example of love. God's sacrifice, His willingness to give up His only son for our sins, that's what true love is. Some peop

Teachable Moments: Perfect Peace

Isaiah 26:2-4 Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the rock eternal.  The other night I had a really good conversation with a new friend of mine. We were discussing how God is beginning to do big things in our lives. As we were talking, I couldn't help but think that these big things sounded a bit scary. That's when my friend reminded me that even though life can get pretty scary, God's not going to leave us on our own to handle it. For we have a great God, full of mercy and compassion, steadfast love, and understanding. We have a God who knows our inmost being, who knit us together in our mother's womb. We have a God who knows our fears and our hearts desires. We have a God who is faithful. Our God IS trustworthy. It's just up to us if we are going to decide to step ou

Bible Gateway: The Blogger Grid!

Hey Ladies!  Today on the blog we'd like to take some time to let you know about the tools that Bible Gateway has to offer!  Here at The Quiet Place Bible Gateway is our go-to Bible resource for blogging. We also love it for Bible study planning, personal reference, and Grad student paper writing. (Such a great help for paper writing my fellow students. The plethora of translations paired with helpful footnotes and commentaries for interpretation are great for research papers.) Today I'd like to especially mention one of Bible Gateway's newest resources, The Blogger Grid. We're really excited about the new Bible Gateway Blogger Grid here at The Quiet Place, especially because we have the honor of being a Bible Gateway Blogger Grid Member!  I have spent time investigating some of the other great blogs on the Blogger Grid and I have found them to be great reads written by people with passionate hearts for Jesus and for his Word. I highly encourage you

LungLeavin' Day!

Founders Note: Britney & I were recently contacted by Cameron Von St. James who shared with us his family's experience with mesothelioma (a rare lung cancer that kills most people within two years of being diagnosed) and asked us if we would help raise awareness for "LungLeavin' Day". The purpose of LungLeavin' Day is to encourage others to face their fears. So today on the blog we're sharing their story and talking about fear. The Story Eight years ago, Cameron's wife Heather, was diagnosed with mesothelioma. She had just given birth to their daughter Lily, and was only given 15 months to live. After a life saving surgery that included the removal of her left lung, LungLeavin' Day was born. This is the eighth year that we celebrate on February 2nd! Today we invite you to celebrate LungLeavin' Day with us.  Each year the Von St. James family sits around the fire pit in the backyard with friends and family, writes their biggest fe
