He Delights In You

Zephaniah 3:17 says, "The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you,   but will rejoice over you with singing."   When I saw the photo below I immediately thought of this verse, God continually reminds us that he delights in us daily, despite the mistakes we may have made he still loves us no matter what. On one of the first posts i talked about how God always meets us right where we are at. No matter what we are going through. He takes our hand and picks us up out of the dust of life, and takes us to that restful place.  Here's the commentary  on Zephaniah 3:17--- God will take delight in them, and in doing them good. The expressions of this are very lively and affecting ( Zeph. 3:17 ): He will rejoice over thee with joy , will not only be well pleased with thee, upon thy repentance and reformation, and take thee into favour, but will take a complacency in thee,

Counting Your Blessings

This week there was a bad winter storm and as you can imagine the roads were covered in snow. The night after, I was driving home from work when all of the sudden I hit a thick patch of slush in the road. The slush sent my car furiously sliding toward the telephone polls. At that moment I was scared. The kind of scared that happens when you know something terrible is about to occur. I prepared myself for impact. Then, a split second later, I delicately turned the wheel away from the polls, eventually sliding my car to a stop. I sat there for a moment processing what happened and allowed myself to take a deep breath. Then I drove the rest of the way home while thanking God for keeping me safe. I felt so blessed to have a God who watches over me even when I'm not watching for Him. How GREAT is the love that God has for us. For more information about Counting Your Blessings Click Here

Trust

Trust. Merriam Webster dictionary defines trust as-- assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something one in which confidence is placed dependence on something future or contingent : hope I'm gonna be honest, sometimes this is hard. To trust in God with it all, to let go and not look back. To those of you who always need to be in control, this may feel heart stopping. But the truth is, it doesn't have to be.  When we put our trust in him, there is where we find rest. when we take God's hand and let him join us right where we are. This is where we put our hope in him and never look back. So, This week Trust has been on my heart and mind.  I have Psalm 40:4 on my closet door, it says-- "Blessed is the man   who makes the Lord his trust.." , this helps to remind me of the importance of putting my trust in him even when it's hard, even when it hurts, even when i feel like i can't let go. So i encourage you t

Imagine That

The other day I read a great devotional about Christmas here is a little snippet of it. "I wonder if the participants in the original Christmas story ever dreamed that the celebration of Christ's birth would become so hassled and hurried. The shepherds? The angels? The wise men? Mary and Joseph too? Was hurriedness present the night Jesus was born? We might think that it was not. But actually, there was hurry present that night. However, it wasn't to the mall or grocery store that people were rushing. The shepherds were working in the fields when suddenly an ensemble of angels told them the Christ Child had been born. Luke 2:16 says they hurried off to find Him lying in a manger. If I had been one of those shepherds, I would have been quiet and amazed once I got there. Being around a newborn baby makes me speak in a hushed tone and feel such awe as I see new life. In the presence of Jesus I wonder if those men too were settled and silent. Maybe we could

Finding rest in his Love

"It is a yoke that is lined with love" As i read this from the commentary on Hillary's post tonight, i was reminded of what it says in 1 John 3:18--" Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." This verse reminds us that we should love with not only our words but also our actions towards others. So when we put on his yoke that is lined with love it helps us to do as Matthew 11:28-30 says, carry each others burdens and come to him when we are weak.   In coming to him daily we will find rest for souls, our time with God should be a shelter from the storms in our lives, a quiet place to gaze upon his beauty and the love that he has for us.  His love is the shelter from the storm. It's what holds us together in times of heartache, it sustains us so that we may find rest. Here's an exert from the commentary on 1 John 3:18-19 "My little children (my dear children in Christ), let us not love in word, neither in

Founded in Scripture

When Britney and I were discussing a possible theme for "The Quiet Place" Matthew 11:28-30 came to mind. It says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." An excerpt from Matthew Henry's Bible Commentary explains the passage further. "Christ invites all to come to him for rest to their souls. He alone gives this invitation; men come to him, when, feeling their guilt and misery, and believing his love and power to help, they seek him in fervent prayer. Thus it is the duty and interest of weary and heavy-laden sinners, to come to Jesus Christ. This is the gospel call; Whoever will, let him come. All who thus come will receive rest as Christ's gift, and obtain peace and comfort in their hearts. But in coming to him they must take his yoke, and submit to h

Welcome to The Quiet Place

My name is Britney and I am excited to share my heart with you on this blog. Hillary and I decided to start this blog with a common goal in mind, to encourage young women in their twenties to do as Matthew 11:28 says-- "Come to me all who are weak and weary and I will give you rest" . Rest for your soul. I hope that you join us in this restful place. Our prayer is that "The Quiet Place" would be a sanctuary for you the reader to know that God meets us right where we are at no matter what we may be going through. My name is Hillary and I am excited to acquaint you with The Quiet Place. Britney and I came together to create this blog with a similar vision in mind. We wanted a space where we could share our hearts with readers and encourage them to abide in God. We also wanted this blog to be a restful place. We realize that if Jesus needed to spend time with his father in a quiet place like Gethsemane, we need to as well. (Hence our URL www.weneedgethsem
