This week is holy week, the week of Jesus's death on the cross. This week i am reading a devotional of the events leading up to his death and today the devotional was talking about how in Luke, Jesus is going to Jerusalem to the temple knowing full well what he was about to face in the coming days, but yet he still went. Luke's gospel describes this week, right now as Jesus is riding into Jerusalem. I love verse 45 and 46 where Luke tells us---"When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. It it written, he said to them, "My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers." Then verse 47 and 48 says, "Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words." In these verses Luke reminds us of the impact that Jesus had on people from all over the world. As he tells us in verse 48, that the chief priests and the teachers of the law and leaders among the people were trying to find a way to kill Jesus but they could not find a way to do it because all of the people hung on his words--that's right my dear sisters, people "hung on his words" This week i have been reminded just how powerful Jesus's words are, they carry weight that puts chills down your spine as you let them resonate on your heart and mind knowing that they can pretty much wreck you, in a good way that is. As i picture Jesus going into Jerusalem and finding all of those people selling things in a place that was meant for prayer. I can imagine the shock that was on his heart and mind and especially in his words--as we see in Luke 19:45-48. I encourage you this week to let the words that Jesus spoke leading up to his death and even before, resonate on your heart as you read about them. Rest in the truth that they provide and remember the sacrifice that he made for each and every one of us by dieing on the cross.
