Finding Comfort in the "Waiting Room"

Founders Note: Today's post is written by our new friend Brooke. Her blog is called "Living as a Single Gal". (you can find the link below) We've just discovered Brooke's blog and we look forward to unwrapping more of the great wisdom she has to share. Without further ado, here is her post...

Imagine, if you will, that you are in a waiting room.

The room is crowded; people standing, people on chairs, people sitting on the floor; this room is totally packed full. And all of these people are waiting.

Waiting for what you may ask?

That’s simple; love.

You are standing in a corner with some of your girlfriends having some laughs. Then one of them gets called out of the room. Then another. Then another; another one bites the dust. One by one all of your single girlfriends are leaving the waiting room and finding true love.

Not only are your friends leaving you, but the rest room seems to empty out significantly.

And then there’s you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This may seem the tiniest bit dramatic, but can you relate?

Can’t we all remember a time where you and all of your friends were single? Those were the good ol’ days, right? But then, one by one each of them found “the one”, and you’re, well, you’re still sitting in the “waiting room”.

Instead of feeling discontent about our season of singleness (however long it may be), we should instead seek contentment in our first love; Jesus Christ, for he was sitting in the “waiting room” long before us. Yes, Jesus was God, but the Bible also tells us that He was fully man, and experienced all the trials and temptations that we ourselves experience; including singleness woes.

"Through all the challenges of work and ministry, through all His testings and trials, He never knew the comfort, encouragement, and support that a mate might have provided. Likewise, He never knew the blessing of having children of His own." (True Woman

"Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Hebrews 12:3

If you feel as though no one understands what you're going through (as all your single girlfriends are no longer in the “waiting room” with you), consider Him. So, whether you're single for a season, or one whom God has chosen to remain unmarried, embrace the calling that He has lead you to and be sustained by His loving grace. I don't know about you, but this brings amazing peace to my heart. Whenever I feel as though I'm walking this journey alone, I can turn to Him, for He knows EXACTLY what I am going through.

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:15-16

Whatever life stage we may be in; whether it’s in the “waiting room” or not; it is because that is God’s providence for us. Never may we forget that. We are in this spot for a purpose; God’s orchestrating it all. That’s a promise he’s made to us time and time again.

So, to sum up….the "waiting room" may not be the place where you envisioned yourself being, but it’s where you’re supposed to be. Seek Jesus Christ for comfort and encouragement; He is one friend who truly “gets it”.

Peace out fellow single gals.

Hey Everyone! I'm Brooke. I am a twenty-something gal from Ontario who is obsessed with knitting, making balloon animals and working on my blog, but not at the same time. For the last year and a half I've been writing a little blog called Living as a Single Gal, which focuses on just that. I am very excited to be writing for The Quiet Place; I hope you are able to take something away from my post today.

  2. Brooke, as usual this was the exact encouragement I needed today. Thank you for the reminder that even when it seems "we are all alone in the waiting room", God is there and He has not left us... He wants us to draw to Him.
I look forward to celebrating with you one day (Lord willing), when you will be that one "biting the dust" ;)
Thanks Brooke for being a great encouragement and friend <3 Praying for you.

  5. Wow, Brooke, thousands of miles apart, but I can so relate. (I love knitting too!) Thanks for sharing! I'm constantly needing reminders to focus on HIM and not myself or my single status. As singles we often think we are alone in this struggle, but we aren't. Not only are there thousands like us out there, waiting & living their lives as God calls them, but Jesus is there for us, to be with us every step of the wait.

If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty. We all tend t...
