The Wetherills Say I Do | Guest Post

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our August sponsors Madison of The Wetherills Say I Do. She is also one of my blogging friends, I have enjoyed working with her this month and am excited to continue in the future, she is a sweet girl with a big heart for others and Jesus! Today She is sharing her heart on this months theme: Beauty in the Brokenness. So be sure to check out her blog at the links below!

If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus.

Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty.

We all tend to grow the most when we are at our weakest. When things are great, there's no need to improve. So maybe that's why we always cleave towards the Lord in our weakness. What does the Bible say about weakness and suffering?

"More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:3-5

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4

So what does beauty in the brokenness mean?

It's being vulnerable and showing weakness to the Lord and to your community.
It's letting God break you down, to build you back up.
It's humbling yourself, making yourself less, to gain MORE in Christ.
It's taking on a servant's role for the glory of the Kingdom.

There are so many things in our faith walk that, to the outside world, look broken. Pain, sickness, death, persecution, racism, you name it, our world unfortunately has it. It's a tough question when people look at you and ask, why? Why do good things happen to bad people?

I don't have the answer y'all, but I have seen the Lord work in those bad, evil and horrific situations so many times. I know that He is in the business of turning brokenness into beauty. Of turning evil into His glory. I know that when we cling to Him, in good times and bad, we are rewarded eternally. I pray that you'll allow Him to come in and turn your brokenness into beauty and glory for Him!

How has the Lord turned your brokenness into beauty?

I'd love for you to stop by my blog and say hello! Stop by for more of my faith, recipe and marriage posts!

  5. Thank you so much for sharing your heart today, Madison! This is so so good. As you very well know, I'm going through a pretty tough time lately with my job. The only thing that is keeping me going (besides good friends who listen to my whining ;) ) is knowing that what I'm doing must be serving the Lord in some way. So even though i'm feeling broken and lost, there is beauty in it. He is working in this.

    Thanks, friend!

  7. Thanks Jenna! I'm so glad it was what you needed to hear. It's difficult to remember during hard times, but I try to remind myself of these things during the good times, so that hopefully it'll stick through the tough times! :)

Being Content

Content, As christian women we here that word more times than we can count, especially in a season of waiting. Content is defined as,   pleased and satisfied : not needing more.  Have you been in a season in your life where your feel like you are just waiting? Waiting for a new job, waiting for things to get better, waiting for marriage, etc. Whatever you are waiting for, sometimes it just seems like it's taking forever just like a long line at the grocery store.  When I think about being content, my thoughts instantly go to being content in my singleness. How many times have we heard the cliche lines like "just wait, God's got it" said by well meaning people, only to make you feel worse. There was a time in my life where it was so hard to hear all of those lines without just wanting to cry, because like I said it made me feel worse rather than better.  That is when I would get discontent in waiting,  sometimes I feel like i am in this never...
