Teachable Moments: Not by Sight

Faith is not the belief that God will do what you want. It is the belief that God will do what is right.   Max Lucado For we live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 "We have not the vision and fruition of God, as of an object that is present with us, and as we hope for hereafter, when we  shall see as we are seen . Note, Faith is for this world, and sight is reserved for the other world: and it is our duty, and will be our interest, to walk by faith, till we come to live by sight" ( Excerpt from Matthew Henry's Commentary ). Living by faith and not by sight is SO difficult for me to do right now. I am currently in this in-between stage where I don't know what the future holds, and it is frustrating. I know that God has it all under control and that I don't need to worry, but I just want to know. It's so hard to be on the blind side of things, yet this is where God calls us to trust him. In our frustration, anger, and impatience, we need to

Drenched in Redemption

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our monthly contributors Vannessa. She is sharing her heart on this months theme: Purity. We hope you are encouraged by her words as much as we were. You can find out more about Vannessa and our other monthly contributors on our about page .  Whenever I hear the word “Purity” my mind naturally goes to the times in my life when I felt  like I acted anything other than pure. I’ve avoided writing on this subject simply for those  reasons. As a matter of fact, I think that is why it’s taken me so long to submit this article. To sit with Jesus and discuss this subject seemed daunting really.  Oh but sweet dear sisters, God is truly faithful. He reminded me of a time when He showed me what purity looked like. It was after I had returned to the fold after a time in the wilderness. It must have been Easter because I was sitting with Him and considering the Cross . Then He showed me that here I was standing in front of the c

Looking to God's Standards

Founders Note: Today on blog we have one of our monthly contributors Kiki. She is sharing her heart on this months theme Purity. Be sure to find out more about her here  on our about page. Purity. It's a packed word, isn't it? I think purity can be a touchy subject with a lot of people--me included. As Christians, it's something that we strive for. It's something that we know is right and yet in this world, it's seen as a negative and something that's just not realistic. It can make living life a little bit harder, can't it? I don't write this to say discourage you, but it is often the truth in our lives. The world tells us one thing and quite often, His Word tells us the other. And that's when I came across this pin. A little reminder that purity isn't about what others tell us to do. It's not about what's cool or what the celebrities are doing (or not doing, for the matter). It's not about comparing ourselves to our fri

Accepting His Love

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have Jayda from The Avocado Grove . She is sharing her heart on God's love. So be sure to check out her blog at the links below! I've read blogs for a really long time. Like, before social media came on the scene and made them all popular and stuff. And I love them so much. It's so much fun to read new perspectives and opinions, and have your mind opened to new ideas by "regular" people. I remember one of the first "faith and lifestyle" blogs that I came across had a huge theme of our relationship with God being a romance. While I was somewhat intrigued by the idea, there was a definite part of me that said "Um, I don't want to think of God as an invisible boyfriend. It's weird." But, I kept reading, because I was taken by the depth of the writer's sureness of God's love for her. It was refreshing, and even though I had been following Christ for essentially my whole life, it was someth

When I feel distant from God.

Founders Note: Today on the blog, we have Dianna from  Adirondack Girl @ Heart , she is sharing her heart on when she feels distant from God. We contacted her via email to do a guest post, we hope you are encouraged by her words as much as we were. Be sure to check out her blog at the links below! Do you remember the day you responded to the drawing of the Holy Spirit, the day you sensed God calling you to turn from your old life to receive his new life and follow him? I remember it vividly. At first I wept with sorrow over my sin, and then I wept with joy because I had received immediate almost tangible forgiveness. I had such a powerful sense of God's love for me; it was overwhelming.  And I felt that joy and love for days, even weeks. Tozer, in The Pursuit of God , explains that "the moment the Holy Spirit has quickened us to life in regeneration, our whole being senses its kinship to God and leaps up in joyful recognition." It's as if we are finally receivi

It's Okay To Not Be Okay

"It's okay to not be okay. You just can't stay there." - TobyMac Facebook Status This quote was exactly what I needed tonight. This semester and past year or so has been a little tough in general. It's not easy moving to new places and making new friends. I have been learning that first hand. Although it has been hard it hasn't been all bad, don't get me wrong there. I just mean that I needed that quote tonight because I needed to be reminded that it's okay to feel disappointed or sad or angry, and to feel like your a hot mess. I have certainly had my fair share of those feelings the past year and a half. The important thing to remember is that you can't linger in it. Lingering in are bad feelings only makes us feel worse and become bitter or depressed. We need to take these feelings to God and ask him to help us.  1 Peter 5:6-11 6  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.   7  Cast a

Living Pure

Blogger's Note: Happy Friday Friends! Today I wanted to take some time and dive into Purity month with you here at The Quiet Place. The topic of purity is something that is close to my heart. I realize that the daily battles fighting to stay pure are difficult ones. It isn't always easy saying no to the things that we know we should, especially when all are friends are participating in the same things. But living pure IS possible, and SO SO Good! Dive into scripture with me this month as we take a journey to discover what purity is and what that means for us as Christian women. Today we'll begin with... Ephesians 4:17-32 Instructions for Christian Living 17  So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer  live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.   18  They are darkened in their understanding  and separated from the life of God  because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.   19  Having

Devotional Monday: A Pure Heart

When i was thinking about Aprils theme of Purity, i thought of a hymn that they sing at my parents church. It's called "a pure heart".  The words: "A pure heart that's what I long for, a heart that follows hard after thee", are etched on my heart as I think about what it means to be pure, especially in the not so pure world that we live in. Webster dictionary defines pure as:  free from what vitiates, weakens, or pollutes,  containing nothing that does not properly belong.  This definition leaves me thinking about what God says about being pure in Philippians 2:15--   so  that you may become blameless  and pure, “children of God  without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”   Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky." This verse reminds us that as children of God we are to be pure and blameless. But in this world that we live in it's sometimes easier said than done. There are so many things trying to take hold of our he

What's Your Favorite Easter Candy?

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have the five lovely ladies on our sidebar this month! This month since it is almost Easter, we asked them "What's Your Favorite Easter Candy?" So be sure to check out each of their awesome blogs, you won't be disappointed! Samantha Blog  |  Facebook  |  Twitter  |  Shop  | Blog Lovin'  |  Pinterest I'm not sure if I have a favorite Easter candy. I really like to bake a cake. A couple of years ago a friend of mine told me that her mom would always make a resurrection cake in representation of Jesus' resurrection. When Tyler and I got marred I decided every Easter I would bake a cake for Jesus. It's really fun! For Christmas I bake him a birthday cake and for Easter I bake him a resurrection cake.  Katrina Blog  |  Facebook  |  Twitter  |  Instagram  |  Blog Lovin'   REESE EGGS! I love 'em. I eat so many that I'm sure to get a chubby-booty, but... it's worth it  ;)
