Devotional Monday: A Pure Heart

When i was thinking about Aprils theme of Purity, i thought of a hymn that they sing at my parents church. It's called "a pure heart".  The words: "A pure heart that's what I long for, a heart that follows hard after thee", are etched on my heart as I think about what it means to be pure, especially in the not so pure world that we live in.

Webster dictionary defines pure as: free from what vitiates, weakens, or pollutes, containing nothing that does not properly belong.  This definition leaves me thinking about what God says about being pure in Philippians 2:15--  so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky."

This verse reminds us that as children of God we are to be pure and blameless. But in this world that we live in it's sometimes easier said than done. There are so many things trying to take hold of our heart, from tv, to movies, to what we find on the internet. It can feel like we are being bombarded with mixed messages that don't line up with the standard that God sets for us.  When I think about the many things that try to get our attention as women, I am reminded of the first part of philliipians 2:15 which says-" children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation."

So sisters as you are thinking about what it means to be pure, remember the words of the song a pure heart. " a pure heart that's what I long for, a heart that follows hard after thee." Rest your weary heart in the truth of these words as you long for a pure heart found in Christ.
