Teachable Moments: The Race

Over the last two months the Lord has been teaching me a lot. Today I wanted to take the time to share with you what I have been learning.

First, God has been reminding me to trust him. For some reason, it is just so easy to worry about the future. In my worries and wanderings of what life will bring my way, God has called me to trust him. To let him guide me even though I can't see where I'm going. This has been a challenge in some moments but I have to say that life has been better since I have been reminded to put my trust in God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Second, God has asked me to get rid of all of the stumbling blocks in my path so that I can live life unhindered by the entanglements of sin.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Hebrews 12:1-3

I haven't quite figured out what this means for me yet, but it's in progress.

Third, God wants me to fix my eyes on Him. In other words, to put my focus on Him on a daily basis. This is also a work in progress, but it is getting easier. I'm finding that the more time I spend with God, the better I feel about my day and everything going on in my life because I know God's in control, he's got my back.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
1 Corinthians 9:24-25

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
Galatians 5:6-8

I certainly don't have life all figured out, but I do know one thing. God is here to help us win the race. So let's heed his training, and run forward.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:28-29

  2. Hi! I just came across your blog a week or so ago, and I was soooo excited to find a blog where I could plug into other young women who love the Lord, and are regularly learning from Him and seeking His truth. Thank you so much for starting this blog..I'm excited for future posts, and I'm currently reading through your older posts. I love this post, and I completely agree!! This is such great encouragement! I really loved Hebrews 12:1-3...and for some reason the word 'pioneer' stuck out to me. It gave me a great image of the Lord as THE pioneer...the leader of all things. I love it!!! Thank you for sharing. :)

I just started my blog about a year ago, and I'm finding my way as I go. I've been waiting on the Lord to tell me what to write about, and every-so-often I get inspired by verses I read, or sermons I hear. Mostly I've been blogging about my life, and recently my travels. I'm excited for what the Lord is going to show me through my travels, and I'm glad that I get to read your blog as I'm adventuring through life. Thanks again!

The Wetherills Say I Do | Guest Post

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our August sponsors Madison of The Wetherills Say I Do . She is also one of my blogging friends, I have enjoyed working with her this month and am excited to continue in the future, she is a sweet girl with a big heart for others and Jesus! Today She is sharing her heart on this months theme: Beauty in the Brokenness. So be sure to check out her blog at the links below! If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty. We all tend t...

Four Tips for Creating Community through Blogging

1. Reach out to other bloggers:  this is an  essential when wanting to get into community. It can be as small as a comment on their blog, or an email. I have built relationships with other bloggers through email, commenting on their blogs, etc. For me it has been a beneficial thing, to create community in something that I really didn't know there was any.   This is a great post on why bloggers need community.  2. Join a blog group on Facebook, or some other social media group: I have joined the Peony Project on facebook which is a group for other christian bloggers. It's a great group and i would definitely recommend it!  3. Make meaningful comments: when I say meaningful comments I don't mean that you have to write a novel, but at least engage with the post somehow. Check out Madison's post on how to comment on blogs to find out more.  4. Plan a blogger Meetup : ...
