Teachable Moments: Patience

Here's a tip, if you don't want to wait, don't pray for patience.

The other night I was sitting in my room and watching a Joyce Meyer sermon to the dim twinkle of my Christmas lights. As I watched her teach about love and kindness she mentioned the fruit of the spirit and how real love has these characteristics. She talked about how we are called to love each other as Christ loves us. With the characteristics of love mentioned in Corinthians. Then she went on to talk about how love requires our patience. Sometimes when we are loving others we have to be patient. We have to let them do what they need to do, and in the meantime wait for them.

It was at this time that I sighed, knowing that as I asked God for patience right then, that he would require me to wait for something. And of coarse, like clockwork, he did. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. Then, finally, I received what I had been waiting for. It was worth it. Not only was I relived that the wait was over, but it was a good lesson for me. I learned that I can be more patient than I realized. I also learned that trusting God is worth it. In the past I struggled with trusting God on a day to day basis, so to be at a place in my life where I can finally say, "okay God, I trust you, I'll wait" is amazing.

So today if you are waiting on God, be patient, keep the faith, keep trusting. Our God is faithful, he knows the desires of our hearts, and will deliver what we need exactly at the right time.

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.Against such things there is no law.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Psalm 37:3-5
Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lordand he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lordtrust in him and he will do this:

If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty. We all tend t...

Imagine, if you will, that you are in a waiting room. The room is crowded; people standing, people on chairs, people sitting on the floor; this room is totally packed full. And all of these people are waiting. Waiting for what you may ask? That’s simple; love. You are standing in a corner with some of your girlfriends having some laughs. Then one of them gets called out of the room. Then another. Then another; another one bites the dust. One by one all of your single girlfriends are leaving the waiting room and finding true love. Not only are your friends leaving you, but the rest room seems to empty out significantly. And then there’s you. --...
