October Theme: Abiding in Christ

Happy October Friends!
I'm very excited to welcome the month of October this year as I begin my new job and life in a new town. I am also excited about announcing this month's theme which is...

This month we will be focusing on what it is to abide in Christ, why we should, and how we can. We hope that you will join us on are month journey learning and discovering whatever God has to teach us about Abiding in him. So let me begin this month by asking a very good question...

What does it mean to abide in Christ?

Well, according to dictionary.com "abide" means to "remain, continue, or stay". Thus to abide in Christ means to remain in him.

John 15:4 says, "Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."

In order to become more like Christ we must abide in him, stay with him, spend time with him. After all, how can we become more like someone if we never spend time with them. We can only become like them when we get to know them. So it is with Christ, in order to become more like him, we have to spend time with him.

So how do we spend time with Christ?

Our relationship with Christ is like are other human relationships, in order to have them there needs to be communication.

1. Pray

When we talk to God we're communicating with him. We're telling him what's up with us and listening to what he has to say to are hearts.

2. Read Scripture

When we read God's word, we open are hearts to listen to Him, to find out what he has to tell us. We need to read scripture in order to find out how God wants us to live. His word is our guide for everything in life, and it helps us to discern his voice from all the others. Spending time reading Scripture helps us to know God, and hence, become more like him.

Today I invite you to abide in Christ with me, let's spend time reading scripture and talking to God.
Go ahead and ask him your questions, tell him what's on your mind. He cares deeply for you and wants to help you with whatever you need. Turn to your savior today to discover more deeply his love and grace for you and to find out what he has for you this day.

  1. I am really excited about this month's theme!!!

I just spent last weekend at a retreat and we were taking some time to study Psalm 27. Abiding came up and the leader of the group pointed us to John 15:4 and described the meaning of abiding in a way that I've never heard before...Basically he said it was like a kid breathing deep and settling in on the lap of someone they trust and in the same sense, the adult opening their arms to them and holding them tight. You know, that sense of "aahhhh, I'm safe and I belong right here". I know that feeling and it does relate to our relationship with God!

Abiding comes with a sense of rest and peace and yet it does also require work and purpose. I'm glad to know that we can abide with Him TOGETHER!!! Thanks for your encouragement! :)

  2. Wow Victoria, that's really cool! I had a run in with John 15 this past week as well. It just so happens that the church sermon was on the vine and the branches. It's cool how God does that don't you think? Thanks for sharing!

  3. That is really neat, Hillary! I truly do love it when God has something specific that He seems to be teaching His whole Church, wherever they are. :)

The Wetherills Say I Do | Guest Post

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our August sponsors Madison of The Wetherills Say I Do . She is also one of my blogging friends, I have enjoyed working with her this month and am excited to continue in the future, she is a sweet girl with a big heart for others and Jesus! Today She is sharing her heart on this months theme: Beauty in the Brokenness. So be sure to check out her blog at the links below! If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty. We all tend t...

Four Tips for Creating Community through Blogging

1. Reach out to other bloggers:  this is an  essential when wanting to get into community. It can be as small as a comment on their blog, or an email. I have built relationships with other bloggers through email, commenting on their blogs, etc. For me it has been a beneficial thing, to create community in something that I really didn't know there was any.   This is a great post on why bloggers need community.  2. Join a blog group on Facebook, or some other social media group: I have joined the Peony Project on facebook which is a group for other christian bloggers. It's a great group and i would definitely recommend it!  3. Make meaningful comments: when I say meaningful comments I don't mean that you have to write a novel, but at least engage with the post somehow. Check out Madison's post on how to comment on blogs to find out more.  4. Plan a blogger Meetup : ...
