Peace of Mind

Where do you find your comfort? your security? your peace of mind? I think if we were all honest, we would say that sometimes we find our peace of mind in things. Things like locks on the car doors, our homes, and our safes. Peace of mind on our alarm systems, emergency funds, insurance plans, and stashes of money hid in our underwear drawers.

Are these things bad? no. Are they helpful? they can be. But what happens when our emergency funds run out, and our locks fail us? what then? Do you still have the same peace of mind you had before?

I came to this peace of mind realization on Thursday night after getting back into my car at the movie theater. As I was searching through my purse for my GPS, I soon realized that I had left it in the car. The thing was... it wasn't there. I am usually so careful to always put it in my purse and make sure my windows are up and my car doors are locked. However, Thursday night I had friends with me and though I locked my doors, I didn't stick my GPS in my purse like I usually do, and neither of us noticed the passenger side window left down a good three inches. So when we got back to the car and I was digging in my purse, I looked down to where my GPS is usually plugged in and realized that the cigarette lighter was pulled from it's socket. My GPS was missing and the cord was gone. The only thing left was my broken car plug and the detachable mount on the windshield. Immediately anxiety filled me and my sense of security vanished. Not only had my car been invaded, but I was invaded. Invaded with fear that they had taken the things that I liked which I kept in my car. Invaded with a greater fear that they had not only stolen my GPS, but all of the addresses within it, and the opportunity to breach the security of my home. At that moment wishing I had bought renters insurance, knowing that I couldn't replace anything valuable that I needed for school. As fear crept over me and that wave of anxiety and nervousness, I was eventually able to calm down and do the only thing that I knew to do that could make a difference, I began to pray. All the way home as I discussed what had happened with my friends in the car and as they tried to make me feel better, I kept praying and asking God to change the person who had invaded my security and peace of mind. I also prayed for God's protection over my friends and family and then lastly for protection over our homes.

The next day I was finally able to retrieve my peace of mind because I was no longer finding it in the locks on my car doors. I sought it in Christ, in my God who is in control. Who knows exactly what happened and what is going to happen. Giving up my fears to God, allowed me to own once again his promise to me, and to all of us written in Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." I know that no matter what circumstances may come my way that God is ALWAYS by my side and always doing what is best for me.

Dear sisters, find your Peace of Mind in Christ Today, because that can NEVER be taken from you.

Today She is sharing her heart on this months theme: Beauty in the Brokenness. So be sure to check out her blog at the links below! If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty. We all tend t...

Finding Comfort in the "Waiting Room"

Founders Note: Today's post is written by our new friend Brooke. Her blog is called "Living as a Single Gal". (you can find the link below) We've just discovered Brooke's blog and we look forward to unwrapping more of the great wisdom she has to share. Without further ado, here is her post... Imagine, if you will, that you are in a waiting room. The room is crowded; people standing, people on chairs, people sitting on the floor; this room is totally packed full. And all of these people are waiting. Waiting for what you may ask? That’s simple; love. You are standing in a corner with some of your girlfriends having some laughs. Then one of them gets called out of the room. Then another. Then another; another one bites the dust. One by one all of your single girlfriends are leaving the waiting room and finding true love. Not only are your friends leaving you, but the rest room seems to empty out significantly. And then there’s you. --...

Being Content

Content, As christian women we here that word more times than we can count, especially in a season of waiting. Content is defined as,   pleased and satisfied : not needing more.  Have you been in a season in your life where your feel like you are just waiting? Waiting for a new job, waiting for things to get better, waiting for marriage, etc. Whatever you are waiting for, sometimes it just seems like it's taking forever just like a long line at the grocery store.  When I think about being content, my thoughts instantly go to being content in my singleness. How many times have we heard the cliche lines like "just wait, God's got it" said by well meaning people, only to make you feel worse. There was a time in my life where it was so hard to hear all of those lines without just wanting to cry, because like I said it made me feel worse rather than better.  That is when I would get discontent in waiting,  sometimes I feel like i am in this never...
