Devotional Monday: You are MORE.

So as we begin this next month of focusing on our Identity in Christ, sisters I hope you are all reminded that your identity is found in him and not the world. As i was thinking of this topic, a song by Tenth Avenue North played in my head, called You are More , it says: "You are more than the choices that you've made, you are more than the sum of your past mistakes. You are more than problems that you create. You've been remade" This is a great reminder that we are more than the lies that the  world feeds us, We are made new in him. Lamentations 3:22-23 says, "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion's never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Sisters let this verse be a reminder that your mercies are made new each day, and that no matter what we are going through, God is right there guiding us in his love. Multiple times throughout scripture  we are reminded that we are hidden in Christ. W

Teachable Moments: A Full Heart

I love it when God fills my heart to the top so far that the only thing that I can and want to do is worship him. I often find that God fills my heart through music. For example this Sunday in church we sang some old familiar songs that I haven't heard in a long time and I loved it. That day the Lord filled my heart and I was able to let it spill over and flow back up to him. It saddens me to report that this doesn't happen more often because I want to always worship God with a genuine heart. I think that sometimes I get so caught up in my own needs and wants that I miss what God is doing. This has been true especially lately. I've been so focused on my new schedule and getting things done that I haven't been taking the time I need to spend with God. If I would only let him fill me up I know that I would have better days and less anxiety. So let's work on letting God fill up our hearts today. I encourage you to take some quiet time today. Go in your room, shut the

Powerful AND Effective

There is a seemingly endless plethora of information on prayer in the Bible. Tonight the Lord put this verse in my heart and I wanted to check and make sure that no one had posted about it yet this month and to my excitement I am the first. :) I am excited because today God has answered my prayers which has motivated me to pray even more. After I heard the answer to my prayers I couldn't help but to pray even more for this person that everything would work out as God intends them to. Tonight God enabled me to pray in a way that I don't often have the right mindset to pray in; with authority. This article explains what it means to pray with authority  "Praying with Authority" by Dr. Charles Stanley  (better than I know how to explain it). Anyways, the verse that I am so excited about sharing with you is... James 5:15-17 New International Version (NIV) 15  And the prayer offered in faith  will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they

Devotional Monday: Changed by Prayer

I know we all think of prayer as a conversation with God and it is. We are also changed by prayer, through prayer God shapes our hearts into something beautiful.  Watch this  video on prayer, and be encouraged that God changes your hearts through prayer my dear sisters!

Share Your Story Linkup Reminder

The best part about sharing your story is getting to relate to other people and build community. Here at The Quiet Place we'd love to build a community with you where we build each other up like it says in 1 Thessalonians 5... 1 Thessalonians 5:9-13 New International Version (NIV) 9  For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath  but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.   10  He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.   11  Therefore encourage one another  and build each other up ,  just as in fact you are doing. 12  Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard  among you, who care for you in the Lord  and who admonish you.   13  Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. So join us as we share our life experiences with purpose, to encourage one another and build each other up. Link up with us and share YOUR story! Remember that only

Floundering For Prayer

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have Deb. Deb is a friend of my family and I have known her my entire life. She is my mother's best friend and also happens to live across the street. Today she is sharing her thoughts about prayer so soak it up! Prayer is a subject I have given much thought. I feel that I am not very eloquent when I pray and thus my prayers are often short and do not seem to come gracefully to an end. Sometimes, prayer feels like just a bunch of sentences rolled together. I have found that conversation is much easier to pray and so instead of rambling, I just say things like "Thank you for your beautiful earth, or I am so grateful I was born American".   There are times though, when I want to be more solemn and turn to the Lord's Prayer. However, that becomes like rote after a while and your mind wanders even while repeating it. So... I decided to try personalizing it. Wow what a difference! MY father who art in heaven. Give ME this day MY

Prayer Changes Things

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our awesome sponsors Chelsea from  The Girl Who Loved To Write . She is sharing her heart on this months theme prayer, So be sure to check out her blog, you will love it!  I grew up in church where I constantly heard the expression, “prayer changes things.” So I prayed.  As a little kid, I said my bedtime prayers.  In middle school I started having a quiet time where I would spend time reading my Bible and praying each morning.  Although I knew it was important, it never felt like my prayers really changed anything, like the phrase I had heard so often promised.   To me, it seemed that God already knew what He was going to do, so why pray?  Out of obligation, I suppose.  So I continued praying, even though I didn’t know if it made a difference or not. When I was in college I started something called The Life Journal, and it helped me keep my prayer life on track.   Being able to look back on the things I prayed over was a powerful t

Devotional Monday: Faithful in Prayer

Do you ever feel like you don't pray enough or don't know what to say when you are praying? Sometimes it's hard to get the words out, or sometimes we simply don't know what to say. In those times when we can't get the words out, God is right there listening to the words that have resonated in our heart and using them to shape us into the women he calls us to be. I was watching a video  the other day when I was at a retreat for a discipleship class I am taking at my church, the first words out of the guys mouth on the video were, "I wish I could be the kind of person who does the right thing, not just the big things, but the small things, the unnoticed things. What I do when no-one is watching" When I heard that, it reminded me of prayer. Throughout scripture when Jesus is talking about prayer he is tells us to go into a room and close the door, pray and mediate on his word. Prayer is all about being faithful as we have that one on one conversation

Teachable Moments: Season of Preparedness

This morning the sermon was about David and how God used the early years in David's life to prepare him for his later years. David was the youngest son and he was often left to tend the sheep. As a shepherd, David had to face the challenge of warding off predators including lions and bears with only a knife and a sling shot. David didn't know it yet, but God was going to use his skill as a protecting shepherd to prepare him for victory over the Philistine champion Goliath. God also used other instances in David's life to prepare him for the future. When David was young, he learned to play instruments. David became such a good musician that he was known for playing well. In fact, he was so good that King Saul's servants called upon him to work in the Kingdom. So David would play music to soothe Saul's Spirit so that he could sleep. God used David's skill with music to prepare a place for him in the kingdom where he would eventually serve as king. Praying for Rain

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our monthly contributors Kristy, from her blog Season of Singleness , be sure to check it out! Also you can find out more about her on our About page  here . She is sharing her heart on this months theme Prayer.  How often do we pray and actually expect God to give us what we asked for? Do you just pray to check off a mental checklist? Do you really expect Him to answer? Do you think He is listening? My family tells this story about a distant relative who was asked to pray during a church service. During his prayer, he humbly and simply prayed for rain to end a drought. Silly, right? Before church could even dismiss, a thunderstorm was unleashed that left everyone shuddering in awe, but it didn’t end there. It rained for a few weeks. As a child, I had a similar experience. The water level of my grandfather’s fishpond was looking a little low. After a conversation with my dad on why we couldn’t fish, I sent a prayer heavenward. I si

Devotional Monday: He hears our Prayers

Sometimes when you are praying, do you feel as though you are just talking to yourself? Prayer is a time where you and God can talk. It's a time where we can have "facetime" so to speak with God. We can do it silently or out loud. It doesn't matter, no matter what he is right there listening to us. He hears us even when we don't think so. He knows the depths our heart and yet he still loves us. Think about that for second, or a few minutes. Sisters, when you pray you must remember that he hears it all. He hears you in your brokenness, joy, laughter and even pain. He listens with his careful ear and lets us know that he loves us all the same. Psalm 66:19 reassures us that he has surely listened and heard our prayer. No matter what it is, or how it's conveyed. He hears it all. When I am praying I like to write it down in my prayer journal, so that I can go back see the work that God has done in my life. I remember praying a while back when I was strug

Teachable Moments: Prayer

Today marks the second completed week of the semester and it sure has been busy. I haven't had much time to think about anything other than school work. This semester is so much different than the last but I am glad for that. Though I am busy completing homework assignments and working for free at my internship, it is good to have a schedule back. In the midst of all of the busyness, I will do my best to keep up with posting here for you.  This week I continue to learn from God to rely on him especially in the midst of my new busy schedule. Prayer is a huge part of that.  The first passage that I that I turn to when I think of prayer is Matthew 6:5-15... Prayer 5  “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing  in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.   6  But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,  who is unseen. Then you

The Power of Prayer

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have our Monthly Contributor Kiki, who is also one of our sponsors this month! So be sure to check out her awesome blog  In It's Time .  Not too long ago, I had the chance to pray with a few other Sunday School teachers that I work with. To preface this story-of-sorts, I should probably tell you that I'm pretty much the definition of an introvert and at first, I wasn't too keen on praying out loud. At the time, I was one of those girls who preferred letting someone else pray. Don't get me wrong, I love prayer--I just prefer praying on a more one-on-one conversation. You know, just me and God. God used that short time of prayer for a little lesson for this girl over here. He reminded me that prayer with just Him is important, but it's also important to share in prayer time with others. God created all of us for a reason. For community, for friendship, and for support. And while I'm still only getting my feet wet in spe

Devotional Monday: Prayer

When I thought of this months theme I immediately thought of 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 which says, "Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus" Every time my close group of friends and I get together, we always end up in a time a prayer. Praying for one another as we struggle with   relationships, time, money, etc. It's amazing how God always brings our time of hanging out and sharing our lives, to prayer. I love it! When we were in college, we would always have Friday night dinners/a movie/time of sharing our hearts with each other. When I look back on these times, i would never take them back, cause sisters they were precious. And once again, God brought us back to prayer. I feel so blessed to be able to have friends that will pray for me and with me. Prayer is one of those things that some people may not feel comfortable doing out loud, or  maybe it's something that you don't do enough.
