A Note to Bloggers

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our awesome monthly contributors and one of my dear blogging friends Kiki. Today she is sharing her heart on this months theme Rest, which if you didn't know ties right in with our mission statement of "Encouraging young women to find rest in God". So, go curl up in your favorite spot and be encouraged by her words.

rest
As bloggers, it's easy to feel the need to stay connected and constantly check, check, check. There's often a lot of pressure on bloggers (and non-bloggers alike) to stay up-to-date so we often mindlessly scroll through our feeds on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and the like. We have to read each post our friends publish and comment, comment, comment.

We have to post at certain times to get the most likes and we have to send out those emails stat. And I'm not accusing you or any other blogger out there because I find myself doing that very thing more often than not.

We like to keep busy and busy people we are. Let me just clarify and say that I truly believe in working hard and staying busy. It's brought me to where I am in both my online and offline life. But it's equally important to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. We need to take a breather every now and then and step back from our social media platforms, too.

And while it's hard, sometimes that means we need to unplug and disconnect from our devices. And when we disconnect from our devices, we can then connect with our family, our friends, and our God. We can spend time in His creation, we can spend time going on coffee dates, or maybe have a night in and curl up with a good book.

Because sometimes it takes a moment of relaxation to realize how grateful we are for our busy lives and for all that He's given us. So tell me, how are you going to rest today?

  4. hmmm... how am I going to rest this evening? I was actually wondering that as the minutes since I have walked through my door have increased. Well, whatever it may be, it will include snuggling in my bed and recapping my day with God. I guess we'll see where we go from there. :-)

  5. Thanks for encouraging us to seek the Lord first over our blogs Kiki!
Trusting in God means we also have to rest from our blog "work" and trust that He'll bring the readers :) It's a good act of faith :D

  6. It's definitely so important to rest. I am going out of town this weekend and I'm pretty sure I'll be taking a social media fast, just to be able to enjoy my time away and not be focused on sharing the trip via social media. That's what latergrams are for ;) Thank you for the encouragement!

Being Content

Content, As christian women we here that word more times than we can count, especially in a season of waiting. Content is defined as,   pleased and satisfied : not needing more.  Have you been in a season in your life where your feel like you are just waiting? Waiting for a new job, waiting for things to get better, waiting for marriage, etc. Whatever you are waiting for, sometimes it just seems like it's taking forever just like a long line at the grocery store.  When I think about being content, my thoughts instantly go to being content in my singleness. How many times have we heard the cliche lines like "just wait, God's got it" said by well meaning people, only to make you feel worse. There was a time in my life where it was so hard to hear all of those lines without just wanting to cry, because like I said it made me feel worse rather than better.  That is when I would get discontent in waiting,  sometimes I feel like i am in this never...

Beauty out of Brokenness

1 Samuel 16:7  So as you may know, this months theme here on the Quiet Place is beauty in the brokenness and it's one of those topics that I personally just want to flesh out and be real with you all. Merriam Webster defines beauty as :  the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit. And brokenness is a place that each of us has been in at one time or another.  For me personally I would say that I find beauty in the brokenness in my life, in the seasons that I am in. Weather it be singleness, loss, etc. There's always that feeling that nothing will ever change, but then one day you begin to find beauty in it.  Singleness has always been on of those things for me, that I share a lot about both here and on my personal blog but it's something that I've always seen as a  line between something that is beautiful and just plain hard. I have emailed back and fort...
