Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our awesome monthly contributors and one of my dear blogging friends Kiki. Today she is sharing her heart on this months theme Rest, which if you didn't know ties right in with our mission statement of "Encouraging young women to find rest in God". So, go curl up in your favorite spot and be encouraged by her words.
As bloggers, it's easy to feel the need to stay connected and constantly check, check, check. There's often a lot of pressure on bloggers (and non-bloggers alike) to stay up-to-date so we often mindlessly scroll through our feeds on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and the like. We have to read each post our friends publish and comment, comment, comment.
We have to post at certain times to get the most likes and we have to send out those emails stat. And I'm not accusing you or any other blogger out there because I find myself doing that very thing more often than not.
We like to keep busy and busy people we are. Let me just clarify and say that I truly believe in working hard and staying busy. It's brought me to where I am in both my online and offline life. But it's equally important to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. We need to take a breather every now and then and step back from our social media platforms, too.
And while it's hard, sometimes that means we need to unplug and disconnect from our devices. And when we disconnect from our devices, we can then connect with our family, our friends, and our God. We can spend time in His creation, we can spend time going on coffee dates, or maybe have a night in and curl up with a good book.
Because sometimes it takes a moment of relaxation to realize how grateful we are for our busy lives and for all that He's given us. So tell me, how are you going to rest today?

this is perfect! unplugging is SO needed! it's so easy to get so involved online and forget to live life and be intentional with the people physically in your life! thanks for the encouragement, Kiki!
ReplyDeletei agree 100% sometimes we just need to unplug and not worry about the "consequences" of missing a post, or a picture, or a pin. there is something beutiful about just experiencing life!
ReplyDeleteWhat great advice, thanks for sharing Kiki!
ReplyDeletehmmm... how am I going to rest this evening? I was actually wondering that as the minutes since I have walked through my door have increased. Well, whatever it may be, it will include snuggling in my bed and recapping my day with God. I guess we'll see where we go from there. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for encouraging us to seek the Lord first over our blogs Kiki!
ReplyDeleteTrusting in God means we also have to rest from our blog "work" and trust that He'll bring the readers :) It's a good act of faith :D
It's definitely so important to rest. I am going out of town this weekend and I'm pretty sure I'll be taking a social media fast, just to be able to enjoy my time away and not be focused on sharing the trip via social media. That's what latergrams are for ;) Thank you for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteAmen, girlie.
ReplyDeleteI know right? She definitely said it all :)
ReplyDeleteI agree it is important to rest. And we as bloggers especially need to find time to rest because of all the work that it brings. Truly resting in God and his presence is so important, Kiki definitely said it all.
ReplyDeleteSo true! I completely agree.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true Amy, I can definitely relate to feeling guilty for forgetting to pin a post or share one. Kiki's words definitely ring true here.
ReplyDeleteI agree Robyn, it is so easy to get caught up in all of the social media and stuff. So it is important that we find time to unplug.
ReplyDeleteSo true Shana! I agree.
