Devotional Monday: Rest

Rest is the theme this month and i am so excited to dig in and soak up all that God has for us. So with that being said, today I want to talk more about rest. As you know our mission statement is "encouraging women to find rest in God." To me that's what it's all about, finding rest in him and his word.  When Hillary and I decided to do this blog a year ago, we knew that we wanted it to place where women could come to find rest in God and his word.

When I think of rest i think of sitting in my favorite spot and opening up my bible and soaking up his word. I also think of the words of our foundation verse Matthew 11:28-30, where God tells us to rest our weary souls in him. He is the place that we should go to when the world get's to be too much, or were so stressed out that were going to explode. He is our resting spot, our place to lay our head down.

John 15:4 says-"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me." Remain in him, as you go throughout your day, remain in him when your stressed. Rest in his unfailing love, Rest your weary soul in him.

Where do you find rest in the midst of a busy life?

Comments

  1. Sometimes I just need to sit alone in my room when the house is quiet, talking with God and reading scripture. Through my Master's program, I have learned that rest is essential and that most of the time you have to make rest a priority over getting other things done. I find that when I don't take the time to make rest a priority, I wear myself thin and am worse off than I would have been if I had rested. The truth is we're not creatures with endless energy, and we weren't created to be constant workers. God made us beings of both work and rest. Each are equally important. So make time to rest, and don't feel guilty for resting, because you need it.

"Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." Exodus 20:9-11

  2. that is so true! God definetly made us to rest, i've learned the same from being in Grad school, that you have to make rest a priority, because we all need it :)

Four Tips for Creating Community through Blogging

1. Reach out to other bloggers:  this is an  essential when wanting to get into community. It can be as small as a comment on their blog, or an email. I have built relationships with other bloggers through email, commenting on their blogs, etc. For me it has been a beneficial thing, to create community in something that I really didn't know there was any.   This is a great post on why bloggers need community.  2. Join a blog group on Facebook, or some other social media group: I have joined the Peony Project on facebook which is a group for other christian bloggers. It's a great group and i would definitely recommend it!  3. Make meaningful comments: when I say meaningful comments I don't mean that you have to write a novel, but at least engage with the post somehow. Check out Madison's post on how to comment on blogs to find out more.  4. Plan a blogger Meetup : If you there

Being Content

Content, As christian women we here that word more times than we can count, especially in a season of waiting. Content is defined as,   pleased and satisfied : not needing more.  Have you been in a season in your life where your feel like you are just waiting? Waiting for a new job, waiting for things to get better, waiting for marriage, etc. Whatever you are waiting for, sometimes it just seems like it's taking forever just like a long line at the grocery store.  When I think about being content, my thoughts instantly go to being content in my singleness. How many times have we heard the cliche lines like "just wait, God's got it" said by well meaning people, only to make you feel worse. There was a time in my life where it was so hard to hear all of those lines without just wanting to cry, because like I said it made me feel worse rather than better.  That is when I would get discontent in waiting,  sometimes I feel like i am in this never-endin
