Glimpses of Hope

This month’s topic could not have come at a better time for me. I’ve been reading through Job, which if you ask me, is the perfect example of beauty in brokenness.

If I were being completely honest, I would tell you that I don’t particularly enjoy the book of Job. It’s kind of depressing; I’m not someone who likes to dwell on pain and hardship, and Job is forty-two chapters of just that. Frankly, I don’t blame Job for being miserable. His wealth, his children, his health...all taken away from him. His skin is literally oozing (gross. So gross.), he’s withering away, and his wife and friends are the least caring and compassionate people you could possibly imagine. He cries out to God, but seems to be suspended in this painful, broken place for awhile. If ever there was a broken person, it’s Job.

One thing that stood out to me in the midst of Job’s suffering, is this little passage:

“Can the dead live again? If so, this would give me hope through all my years of struggle, and I would eagerly await the release of death. You would call and I would answer, and you would yearn for me, your handiwork.” Job 14: 14-15 (NLT)

Job’s life at this moment is marked by brokenness. Sickness. Loss. Former friends deserting and doubting him. But through his brokenness, we see a glimmer of hope. An insinuation of good things to come. Not just for Job, although God does restore him and bless him immensely in the end, but for us. In Job’s brokenness, we see a tiny glimpse of Jesus.

This world is a broken place. We are broken people. The news is filled with stories of violence, war, famine, and disease. Every life at some point is marked by pain, uncertainty, loss, sickness, fear...we don’t have to look far to see brokenness. We don’t have to live long to be broken. But what we have available to us through Jesus is so much bigger than the pain and suffering of this world.


No matter how broken or afraid we are, we can have peace, joy, forgiveness, redemption. Unlike Job, we don’t have to wonder if this life is all we have. Despite our brokenness, we have hope.

    This is such a beautiful, sweet reminder! I actually have not read the entire book of Job, but now I feel really inspired to.

    I agree Jenna! This is such a great reminder that even though we feel broken sometimes, that their is always beauty that comes out of it :)

Being Content

Content, As christian women we here that word more times than we can count, especially in a season of waiting. Content is defined as,   pleased and satisfied : not needing more.  Have you been in a season in your life where your feel like you are just waiting? Waiting for a new job, waiting for things to get better, waiting for marriage, etc. Whatever you are waiting for, sometimes it just seems like it's taking forever just like a long line at the grocery store.  When I think about being content, my thoughts instantly go to being content in my singleness. How many times have we heard the cliche lines like "just wait, God's got it" said by well meaning people, only to make you feel worse. There was a time in my life where it was so hard to hear all of those lines without just wanting to cry, because like I said it made me feel worse rather than better.  That is when I would get discontent in waiting,  sometimes I feel like i am in this never...

Around The Table February \\ Favorite Soup Recipes

It's February and that means another around the table linkup, I am so excited to see where this linkup goes and the community it creates. This months theme is Favorite soup recipes, one of my favorite soup recipes is a Tomato Basil Soup recipe that I've had for a while now. I made it for my friends a couple weeks ago, and it was perfect with some bread that one of my friends brought. Ingredients: 3 cloves of garlic, minced 2 tablespoons of olive oil 2-14oz cans of crushed tomatoes 1-14oz can of whole tomato's 2 cups of stock (chicken or vegetable) 1 tsp of sea salt 1 tsp of sugar 1/2 tsp of fresh ground black pepper 1/4 cup of heavy cream 3 tablespoons of fresh basil Parmesan cheese for the top. Directions: In a saucepan, saute the garlic and olive oil on medium heat for about 1 minute but be careful not to burn the garlic. Next, add the crushed tomato's, then the whole tomatoes one at a time, squeezing them into the pan to break them up. Also add...

Currently Vol. 7

HEARTING:  The new cookbooks and baking books i got for Christmas this year. I made chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel frosting out  of Homemade Decadence by Joy the baker and they were so good!  READING: Catching up on some of my favorite blogs: Oh Simple Thoughts , Wetherills say I Do , and Dearest Love . Also reading the She Reads Truth Esther study.  PINNING: I pinned these cranberry white chocolate oatmeal cookies and i can't wait to make them this weekend! So there may be a recipe on the blog next week!  EATING: I made tomatoe basil soup for my friends and I the other night. It was so good and they loved it as well, which was a plus.  I just finished it yesterday.  ANTICIPATING: Going home for spring break in March, it will be nice to be home for a week.
