The Thing We Need More Than Anything Else

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have are monthly contributor Victoria, she is sharing her heart on this month's theme Repentance. You can learn more about Victoria and her blog on the about page.

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth.”
Ephesians 1:7-10

In this fallen world, the thing that we humans need more than anything else is forgiveness. First, we need our relationship with our Creator to be made right. As we go through life, we come into contact with people that need our forgiveness and of whom we need to ask forgiveness as well. With that in mind, I can’t help but wonder why forgiveness is taboo. I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that before forgiveness can be granted, sin must be confessed, revealed, and exposed.

Making forgiveness taboo is as ridiculous as locking all the food in the house up in a closet and saying, “Oh, we don’t even talk about that, let alone access it.”

It is difficult to look someone in the eye and tell them something terrible about yourself. It is difficult to look someone in the eye and listen as they pour out their struggles. It is, but it shouldn’t be.

After all, nothing I can confess should come as a shock to anyone. Nothing you confess should shock me. Our hearts are wicked and deceitful. The thing that we need more than anything else is forgiveness.

God knows this. When He takes the scales of self righteousness and pride off of our eyes, we know this.

Let’s take the lock off the pantry door and walk in forgiveness. Let’s look for our own sin. Let’s confess it to God. Let’s confess it to the people that will help us fight it and to the ones that we have directed it towards. Let’s listen to others as they confess their struggle with the wickedness bubbling up inside of them. Let’s gather together as the army that we are and make war with this sin that is destroying and devastating every soul in its wake.

God was teaching me about this topic earlier this year and I wrote about it over HERE. These word that I wrote that day have stuck with me:

“As Christians, we know that exposed sin always leads to forgiveness! Sure, we'll have to deal with consequences, but what are consequences in light of the life that we have in Christ?...Forgiveness is ours!”

The path to forgiveness isn’t all that pleasant, but the fruit of it is the most beautiful thing we can ever know. The fruit is unity and joy and peace with God and each other. Forgiven people love much and live with the grace of God as the light to their path. They shine with His glory.

God has made a way. God has commanded us to repent and to be saved and to be united with Him. God has commanded us to receive and to grant forgiveness. Christian, won’t you seek forgiveness today?

If you've ever heard a group of people share their testimonies, a lot of them have a common thread: brokenness. A lot of now believers had to come to a very low point in their lives before they had their breaking moment of calling out to Jesus. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that so many of us have to hit rock bottom before we'll realize our infinite need for a Savior? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that in my darkest moments, I've seen the Lord hand out grace and turn brokenness into beauty. We all tend t...

Finding Comfort in the "Waiting Room"

Founders Note: Today's post is written by our new friend Brooke. Her blog is called "Living as a Single Gal". (you can find the link below) We've just discovered Brooke's blog and we look forward to unwrapping more of the great wisdom she has to share. Without further ado, here is her post... Imagine, if you will, that you are in a waiting room. The room is crowded; people standing, people on chairs, people sitting on the floor; this room is totally packed full. And all of these people are waiting. Waiting for what you may ask? That’s simple; love. You are standing in a corner with some of your girlfriends having some laughs. Then one of them gets called out of the room. Then another. Then another; another one bites the dust. One by one all of your single girlfriends are leaving the waiting room and finding true love. Not only are your friends leaving you, but the rest room seems to empty out significantly. And then there’s you. --...
