Being Content

Content, As christian women we here that word more times than we can count, especially in a season of waiting. Content is defined as, pleased and satisfied : not needing more. Have you been in a season in your life where your feel like you are just waiting? Waiting for a new job, waiting for things to get better, waiting for marriage, etc. Whatever you are waiting for, sometimes it just seems like it's taking forever just like a long line at the grocery store. 

When I think about being content, my thoughts instantly go to being content in my singleness. How many times have we heard the cliche lines like "just wait, God's got it" said by well meaning people, only to make you feel worse. There was a time in my life where it was so hard to hear all of those lines without just wanting to cry, because like I said it made me feel worse rather than better.  That is when I would get discontent in waiting,  sometimes I feel like i am in this never-ending line just waiting for something to happen.  I find myself looking for a neon sign from God that tells me what do or says, "this is the one" with an arrow pointing to whoever it is. But then I come back to reality remembering that God's plans  far exceed my expectations. 

Ephesians 3:20 says,  Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. This is our reminder that in those seasons of discontenment, we can find contentment in God's power that at work within us each and every day. The words in Ephesians 3:20 tune out the cliche ones meant to make us feel better but really they do the exact opposite. They put truth to the matter, helping us to remember that God always meets us right where we are at even in our discontentment. He is right there reminding us that he is going to accomplish far more in our lives than we might ask or think. Rest in that truth today, if your battling discontentment or something else all together. Put your source of hope in his words and that is where contentment is found.

    This was really timely. Last night, my friends and I were just talking about contentment in seasons that aren't what you expect. I wish that we would have thought of this verse. It can be hard to accept the things that God is doing that don't look like what we expect. But He's capable of so much more than we can ask or imagine if we'll surrender to Him. Thanks for the encouragement.

    This is so good! I agree, sometimes I find it that my "need it now" mentality keeps me from being content in the Lord. You hit the nail on the head with this and I needed it today!

    Exactly!!!! I mean, waiting for the right thing is soooo much better than having the wrong thing. Why can't we get that through our heads!?!?!

    This post is so beautifully real. Being content is hard for everyone in different stages of life, I think. It takes patience (and the willingness to lean on God) to really be content.

    You are so right! We live in a world where everything is just handed to us and that is when we need to be reminded that God provides for our needs and not the world.

    I love your statement- "It can be hard to accept the things that God is doing that don't look like we expect." I have definetly been at that place, where i just want things to go my way but God has a totally different plan.

    I love what you said there, "Waiting for the right thing is so much better than having the wrong thing" Sometimes we settle for the wrong thing and end up getting hurt in the process, which is hard but I also think that we need to remember that he always meets us where we are at no matter the process it takes to get there.

    Contentment is something I struffle with at times as well. It is a daily giving up of ourselves and our wants and letting God do his work in us.

Four Tips for Creating Community through Blogging

1. Reach out to other bloggers:  this is an  essential when wanting to get into community. It can be as small as a comment on their blog, or an email. I have built relationships with other bloggers through email, commenting on their blogs, etc. For me it has been a beneficial thing, to create community in something that I really didn't know there was any.   This is a great post on why bloggers need community.  2. Join a blog group on Facebook, or some other social media group: I have joined the Peony Project on facebook which is a group for other christian bloggers. It's a great group and i would definitely recommend it!  3. Make meaningful comments: when I say meaningful comments I don't mean that you have to write a novel, but at least engage with the post somehow.
