Faithfulness.
Something I think a lot of us think we have, but when it
comes down to it, we might be found lacking.
Lately, I’ve been studying James, specifically chapter 1,
with the idea of wisdom and steadfastness and faithfulness.
In verse 5 James tells us “if any of you lacks wisdom, let
him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given
to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is
like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. “
But let him ask in faith…
Don’t we always ask in faith? Maybe not. I think sometimes
we (I totally included) ask things that we think God should answer, but maybe
hold on to knowing it probably won’t happen. That’s unfaithfulness.
And like the verse 8 says, “that person (who doesn’t think
he’ll receive anything from the Lord) is a double minded man, unstable in his
ways.”
I don’t know about you, but I want to be stable. I don’t
like being tossed around like a wave. I want to have my feet firmly planted in
God’s wisdom and grace and love.
And the only way I can get that to stop is to ask God for
wisdom to grow in steadfastness. But I have to BELIEVE he’s going to follow
through.
God hears our prayers and answers them… but we have to have
full faithfulness that he’s going to act according to his plan and that
everything is under control.
I know I need to work harder at unrelenting faith… how about
you?
I definitely pray about things sometimes while thinking in the back of my head that they won't happen. I have to work at this often, especially because I'm a bit of a control freak. Thank you for the reminder.
